About The Right To The City Alliance (RTTC)
Right to the City Alliance (RTTC) emerged in 2007 with a strong and powerful vision to 1) halt the displacement of low-income people, Black, Indigenous, and people of color, LGBTQ communities, and youth of color, and 2) protect and expand affordable housing in tandem with a broader movement to build democratic and just healthy communities for the 21st century.
Since its inception, RTTC has quickly grown to encompass over 90 community-based racial, economic, gender, and environmental justice organizations located in 26 states and 45 cities. Representing true grassroots power and leadership of the most impacted, RTTC’s member organizations weave together local on-the-ground organizing, policy, and advocacy campaigns to build a robust and unstoppable national movement for inclusive, healthy housing and community development.

Position Summary
The Senior Organizer for Communications leads RTTC’s national Homes for All campaign narrative strategy and implementation. This role is responsible for supporting, informing, and activating RTTC’s member organizations - through email, all-member calls, coordinated digital actions, narrative and spokesperson workshops - to build a campaign narrative that connects the work between local organizing efforts for rent control and social housing, and the growing national movement for housing justice.
The person in this position should be skilled at breaking down current events and political discourse as they relate to housing justice and working class organizing —turning narrative into action and action into power. This role is execution-forward, data-informed, and campaign-centered. The person in this position will work closely with the National Organizer and Associate Director for Communications to ensure digital work is aligned with RTTC’s long-term narrative strategy.
Job Responsibilities
Political and Organizational Leadership (10%)
- Contribute to developing politically grounded assessments, proposals, and strategic priorities
- Help build alliance-wide coherence and alignment with both staff and members around strategy and priorities
- Reflect a commitment to praxis
- Surface cross-team or cross-department issues to bring to the leadership team
Staff Development and Support (10%)
- Assess staff development needs for supervisees
- Orient to supervision as an ongoing practice, identifying areas for growth and development
- Be an accessible resource for staff with grounded solutions and organizational context
- Model effective, principled communication and grounded responses to conflict mediation
Earned Media Strategy (5%)
- Support RTTC’s earned media strategy in alignment with campaign priorities
- Co-develop and manage a member organization speakers bureau and spokesperson training infrastructure
- The Homes for All Campaign Communications (20%)
- Lead the development and execution of communications strategies that advance the national Homes for All campaign and elevate its visibility.
- Collaborate closely with Campaign and Member Engagement teams to amplify tenant voices and build a mass renter movement.
- Craft messaging and inform digital content and media outreach that highlight campaign priorities, including rent control and social housing.
- Monitor and respond to public and media narratives to ensure the campaign’s goals are clearly represented and strategically advanced.
- Manage and maintain a story bank featuring member organizations and leaders to support ongoing narrative needs
- Align the Homes for All campaign narrative with the alliance’s long-term strategy, mid-term strategic objectives, and short-term campaign goals
Membership Communications (15%)
Lead communications to RTTC Alliance member organizations via monthly all-member call, newsletters, email campaigns, social media updates, and WhatsApp member threads to ensure a coherent and compelling narrative across RTTC Membership Communications channels
Collaborate with the Membership Engagement Team to create a coordinated and coherent approach to member communications to deepen RTTC members understanding and ownership over alliance-wide campaigns & interventions.
Narrative Analysis & Strategy (10%)
- Support narrative analysis to assess opposition framing and narrative power
- Co-develop tools and best practices for evaluating RTTC’s narrative impact
- Create narrative power maps for priority translocal campaigns
- Coordinate messaging guidance and framing recommendations
Training & Capacity Building (10%)
- Develop and deliver communications trainings, curriculum, and tools
- Test, assess, and document scalable communications support models
Resource Development (5%)
- Support narrative strategy development with AD and RSD team to help meet fundraising goals
- Support the development of fundraising communications assets such as social media, email, graphics etc. for sustainer campaign drive and anniversary gala
Communications Team (15%)
- Support agenda development and facilitation of Communications Team meetings
- Co-lead the RTTC Communications Committee
- Coordinate closely with National Organizer of Communications to align narrative and execution
- Advise on rapid response moments and campaign framing
- Finalize work area work plans
- Plan for team meetings
Common Expectations for all positions:
- RTTC intentionally builds collaborative and transformative culture through:
- Organizational participation: (Approx. 10% of time) team planning, staff meetings and trainings, national convenings, collaborative projects across teams, and HR/administrative tasks common to all positions.
- Evolution of the work: Areas of work may change over time based on organization and movement needs, and always in consultation with the organizer.
- Transformative Praxis: Participate in RTTC’s transformative justice program to align our practice with our values and principles. Build staff unity and cohesion, and principled struggle amongst all team/staff members.
- Location & Travel: Location is negotiable. RTTC has concentrations of staff in the following areas: Philly, Atlanta, Boston, Brooklyn (physical office), and the SF Bay Area. Travel is required; frequency and duration of travel is negotiable. On average, this position will be expected to travel [1-2 times per month for a total of 5-10 days per month, year round].

Required Experience & Qualifications
- 7+ years experience in earned media, narrative strategy, or movement communications
- Strong political analysis and strategic framing skills
- Experience training spokespeople and facilitating communications workshops
- Proven ability to build and manage media relationships
- Strong writing, synthesis, and editorial judgment
Position-Specific Skills
- Excellent writing and editing skills for digital platforms
- Experience with EveryAction, Cision and other digital organizing tools
- Demonstrated ability to break down complex topics into compelling, digestible narratives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to write and speak a second language, preferably Spanish
- Experience working in housing justice and/or in an alliance or coalition
- Experience in crisis communications
General Requirements

- Experience and familiarity with housing justice, gentrification, displacement and anti-eviction work and/or grassroots base-building organizations and transformative organizing
- Experience in multi-racial, multicultural settings
- Knowledge of common computer applications: MS Office, Google docs, Adobe Acrobat, Dropbox, Mac environment, and Zoom video tele-conferencing systems
- Access to reliable internet, phone and remote office arrangements. RTTC provides for costs of home offices.

Salary and Benefits
This is a [full-time, EXEMPT position. The salary range starts at $108,000. Compensation commensurate with experience and competitive with our sector.
