Community Power Collective’s (CPC) mission is to build power with tenants, street vendors, and transit riders in communities of color to create a solidarity economy, gain community control of land and housing, and form dignified public systems that facilitate a culture of collective care in Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles and the LA Metropolitan area. We are a member-led organization, established in May 2020 in this formation, but carrying a legacy of 25 years of economic and housing justice organizing in the Eastside. CPC participates in and leads various coalitions that work on housing justice, transit justice, and street vendor justice in Los Angeles. 

The Communications Organizer will be responsible for supporting & implementing narrative and digital organizing strategy across CPC’s programs - Community Lands, Transit Justice, and Street Vendor Justice. The ideal candidate will have experience doing communications work in a community organizing setting. They should be able to develop and implement digital organizing plans in a team setting and with little supervision, and translate policy language and political frameworks into accessible language for multiple audiences. 

This position will report to the Director of Communications. It is a full-time (40 hours/week) position with benefits. 

Job Responsibilities:

Content Development

  • Develop and curate multimedia (graphic, written, video, audio) content for social media platforms, websites and emails to promote campaign work for our Street Vendor Justice, Transit Justice, and Community Lands programs. 
  • Develop digital organizing tools, such as toolkits, click-to-email forms, and online petitions.
  • Develop content for and schedule time sensitive emails, action alerts, etc. 

Social Media

  • Coordinate social media posts to ensure strategic & consistent content that generates engagement across CPC programs. 

  • Tailor real-time posts based on trending topics and the political moment that connect back to our programmatic work.

  • Ensure content aligns with narrative and communications strategy.

  • Manage & respond to direct messages on all platforms (Instagram, X, and Facebook)

Other Organizational Responsibilities

  • Participate in one of CPC’s infrastructure committees (finance, operations, accountability, wellness).
  • Collaborate with organizers and staff in other program areas to support a culture of organizing, strategy development, and transformation.
  • Support implementation of CPC organizational events, training, and outreach efforts.
  • Participate in orgwide meetings and events. 
  • Support with occasional website updates.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • At least 2–3 years of communications experience with demonstrated ability to implement digital strategy and communications plans.
  • Experience with digital organizing tactics. 
  • Familiarity with design software such as Canva, Adobe creative suite, Affinity Designer.
  • Social media strategy experience and knowledge of social media trends. 
  • Experience with creating graphics for social media.
  • Knowledge of common computer applications: MS Office, Google docs, Dropbox, Google Workspace, and Zoom video teleconferencing systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills for media, policy and popular audiences.
  • Able to work independently while maintaining close communication with remote teams.
  • Experience and familiarity with housing, labor, and transit justice and base building work.
  • Experience in multi-racial, multicultural settings.
  • Ability to write and speak in Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with CRM systems and Database management (EveryAction).
  • Experience with video production. 
  • Experience with Squarespace. 

Compensation

This is a full-time, non-exempt salaried position. CPC has a set salary structure that aims to support lateral leadership. The set annual salary for this position is $65,000. CPC is fiscally sponsored by Right to the City Alliance (RTTC). RTTC offers a comprehensive benefits package including 100% medical, and dental insurance benefits for employees and dependent as well as short and long term disability and life insurance benefits for employees. Employees qualify for employee-matched 401K retirement plan after 1 year of employment. In order to support healthy work-life balance and on top of observing all major holidays and 80 hrs of PTO front loaded, CPC observes a 2 week paid Winter break and 1 week paid Summer break.
